Scaffolding Safety Guide: A comprehensive analysis from design to construction

2025-06-17 Visits:48

Definition of Scaffolding

Scaffolding is a structural frame composed of rods or structural units and accessories that are reliably connected. It can withstand a certain load and has the function of safety protection, providing the necessary working conditions for construction. Scaffolding is mainly divided into two categories: working scaffolding and supporting scaffolding.

1. Working scaffolding
Working scaffolding is composed of rods, structural units and accessories that are firmly connected. It can be supported on the ground, on buildings or attached to engineering structures to provide a stable working platform for construction workers and ensure their safety. This type of scaffolding includes many types, such as ground-based working scaffolding, cantilever scaffolding and attached lifting scaffolding, etc. They meet specific construction needs through different rod and node designs.

2. Support scaffolding
Support scaffolding is composed of rods, structural units and accessories that are firmly connected. It can be supported on the ground or attached to the engineering structure, bear various loads, and provide a stable support and working platform for construction. This type of scaffolding not only has a safety protection function, but is also widely used in various construction scenarios, such as structural installation, concrete construction, etc. Its design is flexible and diverse, and can be customized according to specific needs.

Basic requirements for supporting scaffolding

As an indispensable facility in construction, the basic requirements of supporting scaffolds include stability, safety and functionality. First of all, stability is the foundation of supporting scaffolds. It must ensure that they can be firmly supported on the ground or attached to the engineering structure to prevent tipping or sliding. Secondly, safety is of vital importance. The rods, structural units and accessories of the scaffolding must undergo strict quality inspections to ensure that they can withstand the expected loads during use and protect construction workers from injury. Finally, functionality is also indispensable. The supporting scaffolding should be able to meet the various needs of construction, provide stable support and spacious working space.

Before starting the erection and dismantling of scaffolding, a special construction plan must be formulated according to the unique nature of the project, and it can only be implemented after relevant approval. The structural design of the scaffolding must be stable to ensure the stability of the overall scaffolding system. The design, construction, use and maintenance of the scaffolding must strictly follow a series of safety regulations and requirements.

Safety regulations

1.Controlling the working layer load

It is strictly forbidden to fix supporting scaffolding, guy ropes, concrete pump pipes, unloading platforms and supporting parts of large equipment on the working scaffolding. At the same time, it is also strictly forbidden to hang lifting equipment on the working scaffolding.

2.Operation prohibited due to bad weather

In thunderstorms and strong winds of level 6 or above, operations on the scaffolding should be stopped immediately. In rain, snow, fog and other weather conditions, the erection and dismantling of the scaffolding should be suspended. In addition, when working on the scaffolding after rain, snow, frost and other meteorological conditions, effective anti-slip measures must be taken and snow must be thoroughly cleared to ensure operational safety.

3.Fully enclosed protection standard

The outside of the working scaffolding and the working layer railings supporting the scaffolding must be equipped with fully enclosed protection measures, usually using a close-mesh safety net or other effective means. At the same time, the close-mesh safety net used must be a product with good flame retardant properties.

4.Protective measures and safety restrictions

The outer facade and corners of the working scaffolding facing the street must be protected by strong measures, the height of which shall not be less than 1.2 meters, and the protection width at the corners shall be consistent with the width of the working scaffolding. The number of layers of the working scaffolding operating at the same time should not exceed two to ensure stability and safety.

5.Fire prevention and anti-slip measures

When performing electric welding, gas welding or other open flame operations on the working layer of the scaffolding, effective fire prevention measures must be taken and a designated person must be assigned to supervise to prevent the occurrence of fire accidents.

6.Hazard detection and personnel evacuation

During the process of applying loads to the supporting scaffold, personnel are strictly prohibited from staying under the frame. Once a safety hazard occurs during the use of the scaffold, it must be eliminated immediately. If a major hidden danger that may endanger personal safety occurs, the work on the frame should be stopped immediately, all workers should be evacuated, and the engineering and technical personnel should be responsible for inspection and disposal.
