What Is Membrane Technology?
Air separation using Membrane technology occurs when compressed air is forced into a vessel containing a hollow tube in the middle surrounded by a polymeric hollow fiber. These hollow fibers selectively permeate oxygen, water vapor, and other impurities out of its side walls, allowing Nitrogen to flow through its center and emerge as product.
 Membrane technology is used in our Nitrogen Generator Series ;Compact Nitrogen generators as well as in our commercial products.


Membrane Technology

A Nitrogen generator using membrane technology has the following characteristics:

  1. Least expensive N2 ;production method

  2. High N2 ;purities, or high N2 ;volumes at lower purity levels

  3. High reliability due to simple airflow design

  4. Utilizes lower operating and delivery pressures

A ;membrane nitrogen generator ;uses a hollow porous fiber to separate the N2 molecules from the others (including O2).


Membrane Nitrogen Generators – The Process

Membrane generators ;use a porous hollow fibers of various diameters, lengths, efficiencies and materials. Pressure is used to separate the molecules from the stream of compressed air flowing in. This pressure process is referred to as selective permeation.
 The fibers are run parallel to one another so as to provide the needed capacity. The semi-permeable fibers allow the faster gases to permeate the walls quickly, releasing back into the atmosphere. For the most part, these faster gases are comprised of carbon dioxide, oxygen, water vapor and hydrogen.
